PAWTUCKET – Aaron Hertzberg is leaving his position as executive director of the Pawtucket Foundation to become a municipal economic development director in his home state of Wisconsin.

The foundation announced the departure of Hertzberg, which is effective Oct. 23, in a news release on Thursday and said it will conduct a search for his replacement.
Hertzberg, who has worked for the foundation since 2008, started as a program associate and was promoted in 2010 to program director, and in 2012, to executive director. The foundation praised Hertzberg for building public-private partnerships and advancing redevelopment plans in Pawtucket and Central Falls.

Hertzberg, in a statement, said he is pursuing an “exciting career opportunity” and more importantly, reuniting his children with their grandparents on a regular basis. He said he is proud of his time at the foundation.
“Since 2008, we have grown our staff, implemented a new strategic plan, championed key transportation projects and plans, organized a multi-juristictional comprehensive river corridor development plan, improved zoning and economic development resources and helped attract major business and development interest. I leave with mixed emotions, but am confident in the direction of the organization and its role as a respected community development partner and one of the community’s greatest champions for revitalizing the downtown, riverfront and transportation gateways of Pawtucket and nearby Central Falls,” he said.

Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. and Kevin P. Tracy, co-chairmen of the board of directors of the Pawtucket Foundation, said they are sad to see Hertzberg go, but are excited for him as he takes the next step in his career. They said they will work with him to create a transition plan for the next executive director.
“We look forward to the next chapter at the Pawtucket Foundation and continuing our role as a strong leader, advocate and catalyst in Pawtucket and Central Falls,” they said.
