NORTH KINGSTOWN – Hexagon Metrology last week announced the next generation of its Romer Absolute Arm, a portable measuring arm designed with improved ergonomics, a new wrist design and greater stability to reduce operator fatigue.
The Romer arm provides tactile and non-contact dimensional measurements in the aerospace, automotive, military, forming, tube bending and casting industries for applications requiring inspection, on-machine measurement, fixture and jig set-ups, and reverse engineering.
The six-axis measuring arm introduces a new wrist designed after the complex contours of the human hand, while the wrist on the seven-axis version features a more natural feel with rotation centered around the system’s probe. Both systems include a lockable counterbalance to improve arm movement, protect the arm from hard falls, and allow single-handed operation.
In addition to upgraded ergonomic features, the six-axis wrist includes a built-in work light and digital camera. Haptic feedback vibrates the wrist to warn the user of possible harmful conditions, making it ideal for noisy shop-floor environments, Hexagon said.
