PROVIDENCE – Higher Ground International will present its Village Leader Awards to three Higher Ground community members during its 2016 Cultural Gala on the evening of Sept. 23 at the Renaissance Providence Hotel.

The nonprofit group, which supports West African communities and the immigration of its citizens to Rhode Island, will present the Paramount Chief Award to Mackenzie L’Maree, Higher Ground International board president; the Kingdom Chief Award to Councilwoman Sabina Matos, president pro tempore of the Providence City Council; and the Clan Chief Award to Anthony Abu, artist and owner of @vq1 Studio.

The event will run from 6-10 p.m. and attendees are requested to dress in formal African or cocktail attire.
