NORTH PROVIDENCE – Yacht Club Bottling Works is making its own splash in the presidential race through some political pop.
The company, celebrating its 101st year in business, this week released a “Soda Pop Poll” duo – Hillary’s Liberal Limeade and Donald’s Populist Punch.
After the election, the company will release poll results to see which flavor consumers preferred.
“This election season has been so negative, with incredibly polarizing candidates,” John Sgambato, Yacht Club Bottling Works owner, said in a statement Tuesday. “We really wanted to have some fun with the election and let people have a little taste of the edgy candidates – both flavors have a slight bite to them.”
This is the first time the company has created sodas for an election.
Hillary’s Liberal Limeade has a raspberry lime flavor, while Donald’s Populist Punch is a traditional fruit punch that begins with a strawberry flavor and ends with notes of peach.
Sgambato, in a phone interview, said they tried to match the soda flavors with the colors of the political parties – blue for Democrat, red for Republican. That’s how Hillary Clinton ended up with a blue raspberry flavor, and Donald Trump landed the punch.
He said they already sold out of their first run – 150 cases featuring 24 bottles each. But it is too soon to tell which flavor customers prefer.
Sgambato said he likes both flavors equally.
Rhode Island resident and cartoonist Frankie Galasso designed the limited-edition labels with caricatures of the 2016 presidential candidates, featuring Clinton and Trump with their respective donkey and elephant mascots. Mike Corsini of Skepsis Multimedia is the graphic designer.

“I consider myself to be a bit of a soda freak and I love to support local businesses,” Galasso said. “It was fun to collaborate with John and create these wild caricatures with their animal companions. I think people will really enjoy the artwork.”

The sodas will be available through the election at the company store at 2239 Mineral Spring Ave. (8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday; 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday; 8 a.m. – 3p.m. Saturday; closed Sundays), and at select stores throughout Southeastern New England, and at farmers markets.
