PROVIDENCE – The state Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission has announced the availability of $1.6 million in state preservation grants for projects at museums, cultural art centers and public historic sites in the state.
Grants will be available in amounts from $8,000 to $150,000. Grant recipients will be required to raise matching funds. The projects could affect public buildings, such as town halls or libraries, as well as performing arts spaces and concert halls.
The applications are due on or before Aug. 19. In preparation, the commission will host workshops at several locations in Rhode Island to provide information about applying for the grants. The workshops are at: The Old State House, 150 Benefit St., Providence, 2 p.m. June 29; The Preservation Society of Newport County, 424 Bellevue Ave., Newport, 10 a.m. June 30 and Harris Mill, 618 Main St., Coventry, 10 a.m. July 1.
