PROVIDENCE – Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island has begun offering a regular forum for its employees to openly discuss the most challenging emotional and social issues they face in caring for patients and families.
The agency is the first hospice in the country to launch Schwartz Center Rounds, a program that enhances compassionate care for patients and families, improves teamwork, and reduces caregiver stress and isolation.
Unlike traditional medical rounds, Schwartz Center Rounds provides an opportunity for caregivers to share their experiences, thoughts, and feelings on a range of topics drawn from actual patient cases. The principle is that caregivers are better able to make personal connections with patients, families and colleagues when they have greater insight into their own feelings. •
