PROVIDENCE – John M. Murphy, founder and chairman of Home Loan Investment Bank, started his career in the 1960s and is now retiring.
More than 400 guests gathered last week at the Warwick Country Club to celebrate Murphy’s career.
“The intention of the event was to give my father a wonderful retirement send-off,” explained Murphy’s son Brian Murphy, president and chairman of Home Loan.
Although known for his career in the financial services industry, Murphy has also served in politics, real estate and philanthropy. His career started in the 1960s, and by the 1970s, Murphy founded J.M. Murphy Realty, a commercial properties management company that he still owns today. He later incorporated Home Loan Investment Bank, an FDIC-insured savings bank, with branches in Providence and Warwick.
The bank also chartered Northern National Life Insurance Co. and Home Title Guaranty Co.
Murphy served four terms on the Providence City Council, and has sat on a plethora of boards throughout the state. He currently serves on the executive committee of the R.I. Foundation and the Fogarty Foundation.
“We are so grateful that so many of his longtime friends, colleagues, business associates and former employees took time out of their lives to show my father how much he impacted their lives through his career in business, philanthropy and community initiatives. We are humbled by the outpouring of love and support,” Brian Murphy added.
