JOHNSTON – Three businesses in the home improvement sector, owned by a single family, will relocate this summer to an 85,000-square-foot facility in North Smithfield. The businesses include KB Surfaces, which creates countertops for residential, commercial and industrial properties.
The company will occupy a space that will include a showroom for customers. The renovated building will include solar-operated power, water cleaning and recycling systems, and energy-efficient lighting, according to owner Tracey Beck.
KB Surfaces is now located in Johnston. The Beck family also owns two additional home improvement businesses, CAS America, a mill and custom cabinet company that operates out of a 20,000-square-foot space in East Greenwich, and Closettec Inc., which designs high-end, custom closets.
The Beck family considered moving the three companies to a consolidated facility in Massachusetts or Connecticut but decided to remain in Rhode Island at a more regionally accessible location.
“In the end we thought it would be best to remain here and move all of our operations centrally, instead of having multiple facilities in Johnston and East Greenwich,” Beck said.
North Smithfield officials were accommodating of the company’s plans to move.
The facility should be operational later this spring. A grand opening is planned for August.
Between the three companies, the extended Beck family employs approximately 50 people.
