Hope Global receives $1.5M federal grant to guard against flooding

CUMBERLAND – Hope Global has received a $1.5 million federal grant to help improve its efforts to guard against damaging floods, including raising critical equipment above flood heights.
The federal Community Development Block Grant for flood mitigation efforts was announced Friday.
The grant, administered through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will keep Hope Global and its 250 jobs in Cumberland, Mayor William S. Murray said, in an announcement.
Severe flooding of the Blackstone River left several million dollars in damage to the facility in 2005 and 2010, according to Hope Global’s CEO, Cheryl Merchant.
The grant application was made by Cumberland’s Planning and Community Development Department and Leslie Taito, a senior vice president at Hope Global.
The company manufactures and develops textiles for industrial, automotive and commercial use.
