Hotel, conference center replacing Seaview

MIDDLETOWN – Site work has begun for construction of a four-story, 198-room hotel and conference center to replace the 1950s-era Seaview Hotel.
Demolition of the seaside hotel was completed several weeks ago, said the town’s building official, Jack Kane, who issued a building permit that authorized the site work.
Final town approval has yet to be granted for the construction plans, which would involve a first phase for the hotel and conference facilities, followed by a second phase with two townhouse-style buildings, according to the town’s planning director.
The Seaview Hotel overlooks Easton’s Beach in Newport.
Plans for the initial phase have proposed a four-story hotel, a conference facility with an occupancy of 580 seats, and a dining room with a capacity of 332 seats, according to Kane.
The architect for the project is Paul Burke of Middletown.
The property, at 240 Aquidneck Ave., is owned by Seaview Inn LLC, according to town records. The owners, identified by Kane as Harry and Peter Kyriakedes, also own the Atlantic Beach Club.
The original Seaview Hotel, a two-level structure built in 1958, was assessed by the town at $1,057,000 in 2014, according to town records.
