PROVIDENCE – The Interstate-195 Redevelopment District Commission is rebranding the 40 acres of former highway land under its control as “The Link,” the independent state board said Monday.
“The vision [for the land] calls for workplaces that are linked to urban living, a downtown that is linked to the riverfront and a new energy that links the past to the future,” the commission said in a news release announcing the name change.
The I-195 commission also announced Monday that it has received approval from the R.I. Coastal Resources Management Council to provide master permitting for the properties.
The linear mile of former highway land stretching from Fox Point to downtown can support 3 million square feet of mixed-use development in addition to 8 acres of new parkland.
Oh cool. The artist’s plan shows a chaotic jumble of square industrial buildings divided by Route 95. How different than what was there before!
