NEW BEDFORD – A new information technology staffing agency emphasizing cybersecurity has opened – South 6 Inc.

Glen Ilacqua, South 6 Inc. president, said on Tuesday that the company opened in the fourth quarter, and is focusing on the Northeast market, but in cases where clients have multiple locations, they have no geographic restrictions.

He said he has five full-time staff members, but draws from a network of more than 350 IT specialists trained in the latest security technologies.

“Clients engage a business like ours when they have technical challenges that are of limited duration (generally under two years) but require workers with specialized, highly skilled training,” he explained.

Ilacqua, who said he has worked in IT on and off since the 1990s, said he decided to create the staffing firm because he felt that IT, and cybersecurity in particular, would present the “largest unmet need in the marketplace over the next decade.”

In a press release announcing the company’s debut, he noted the proliferation of “smart” devices, and how the devices are interconnected across multiple networks and platforms.

“When industrial production automation and data storage is added to the mix, it is easy to see how the protection of such data systems quickly becomes a complex issue. Industry is struggling to strike the balance between compatibility and security, and where technology goes, the potential for cyberattacks follows,” the release stated.

Ilacqua said that in the past, software was written and designed almost to the point of completion, then tested for security shortly before release.

“But today, IT practitioners at every step of the software development life cycle need to work with security in mind to ensure robust protection against a security breach,” Ilacqua said.
