In R.I., Brown best for ENTP personality types

PROVIDENCE – In Rhode Island, students who are known as “debaters” would do best at Brown University.
College Match Up, which uses a personality-centered approach to college advice and rankings, listed the top 25 colleges and universities for those with the ENTP personality type – the third rarest extraverted type representing only 3 percent of the population.
Someone who is an ENTP, which stands for extraversion, intuition, thinking and perception, would do best at St. John’s College in Annapolis, Md., a private liberal arts college.
“ENTPs will find St. John’s respect for principles and the exchange of ideas to be no barrier against their penchant for playing devil’s advocate. Indeed, they will find it welcomes their patent challenges with open arms,” the website stated.
Ivy League Brown was the only Rhode Island university to make the list, coming in at No. 13, where it tied with California Institute of Technology.
“Brown’s unique and alternative mission to have student design their own courses of study will resonate deeply with ENTP’s curious desire to explore every intellectual avenue possible,” the website stated.
The website said ENTPs advance their views by questioning others for the sake of argument.
“ENTPs delight in walking a mile in people’s shoes so they can fully understand their position. Although contrarians, their use of others’ views as vehicles for their own ideas means they can see problems from many angles and choose the best possible solution for most any given situation. This ability makes them great governors, judges, statesmen and group leaders,” the website stated.
Brown also made the list for ISTJ (introversion, sensing, thinking and judgment) personality types – described as the “Jack and Jills of all trades, able to tackle seemingly overwhelming problems through strict organization and ability to break things down to the fundamentals.” Brown tied for ninth place on that list with Colby College in Waterville, Maine; Princeton in New Jersey; and Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass.
“ISTJs with a particular interest in design and architecture should take note of Brown’s five-year dual enrollment program with the Rhode Island School of Design. (Though don’t get your hopes up: the acceptance rate here is just 3.3 percent),” the website stated.
In addition, Stonehill College, in Easton, Mass., made it onto the ESFP (extraversion, sensing, feeling, perception) personality type list for those who are “non-stop, impulsive entertainers.” Stonehill was No. 21, tying with University of Houston, and the website said many of Stonehill’s former students have gone on to careers in the spotlight as filmmakers, sportscasters and radio talk show hosts.
