WARWICK – While many companies are still downsizing downsize and the job market in Rhode Island struggles to expand, Independence Financial Partners, the local John Hancock Financial Network firm, is hiring, said spokeswoman Deb Nelson.
“We had 14 people attend our open house on April 2 and eight of those are in the interview process now,” said Nelson. “Since the open house, I’ve also gotten three resumes and they look good.”
Independence Financial Partners is looking for three financial advisors, a position that doesn’t come with a salary, but does have training, marketing support and benefits from the John Hancock network, she said.
In addition, Independence Financial Partners wants to hire four junior financial counselors, a position that does come with a salary.
“This is a huge industry segment in Rhode Island and we want to let people come in and explore the opportunities and then decide if it’s for them,” she said. “We have some candidates who come right after they graduate from college and others who are changing careers.”
The wave of Baby Boomers is expected to create a large demand for the range of counseling and services the firm offers, including life insurance and retirement planning, Nelson said.
