PROVIDENCE – IndieWhip, the company that made the Rhode Island tourism video featuring Iceland footage, says, “It’s going all in on Rhode Iceland.”
It may be April Fool’s Day, but the firm has released a new video on its website talking about the similarities between Rhode Island and Iceland – which seem to be basically “land.”
Three men, who identify themselves as co-founders of the company, talk about viral video trends and how they are “a way of life,” citing other viral video stars such as cats, cats with cucumbers, water-skiing squirrels, a “dramatic chipmunk” and the “dancing baby” that started it all.
The segment, which runs almost 2 and a half minutes, is spliced with news segments this week talking about the Iceland mistake.
The co-founders respond with “Rhode Island really deserves to be put on the map” and “We chose Iceland because, frankly, it’s dope.”
They call Iceland a great sister state to Rhode Island. One says, they want to “see where it takes us, see where it takes Rhode Island, see where it takes Iceland.”
Earlier in the week, the firm released a statement on its website apologizing for including the footage of the skateboarder in Iceland in front of the Harpa concert hall and said it would fix it for the state for free.
State officials have taken heat since Rhode Island’s new slogan, “Rhode Island: Cooler & Warmer” was unveiled at a R.I. Commerce Corp. meeting Monday. The discovery of the Iceland footage in the tourism video added to the uproar over the slogan – and it went viral.
