LINCOLN – An indoor go-kart track opened last week at Collyer Entertainment Complex, and there are plans to add bowling and billiards, a restaurant, sports bar, indoor playground for children and event rooms, in April.

Billed as the first of its kind in Rhode Island, R1 Indoor Karting features electric go-karts. The company also says it is the fastest karting track in America with karts that reach 45 mph.

According to information from the company, the owners converted approximately 90,000 square feet of warehouse space into the European-style track. It was designed by Mike Hezemans, a professional race car driver and one of the track owners.

The company said the facility will create 75 jobs, and more than $5 million has already been invested in the multi-sport entertainment complex.
