Info meeting set for Care New England-Memorial merger
R.I. ATTORNEY GENERAL Peter F. Kilmartin and the R.I. Department of Health will conduct an informational hearing on the proposed merger of Memorial Hospital of Pawtucket and Care New England on Tuesday in Pawtucket.
PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Attorney General and the R.I. Department of Health will hold a public informational meeting regarding the proposed affiliation of The Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island and Care New England on Tuesday, June 11. The meeting will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Joseph Jenks Junior High School, 350 Division St., Pawtucket, the Attorney General announced Friday in a press release.
Earlier this year, Care New England and Memorial Hospital reached an agreement to establish Memorial as a hospital partner within the Care New England network. The affiliation agreement received unanimous approval from the boards of both organizations, said officials from the two institutions.
In February, Care New England and Memorial Hospital submitted merger applications with the DOH, the Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission. The partnership will facilitate the development of an integrated health care delivery system with respect to the new health care environment, according to Dennis D. Keefe, president and CEO of Care New England and Arthur DeBlois III, interim president and CEO at Memorial Hospital.
The Attorney General and the DOH will accept public comment at the informational meeting as well as written comments submitted separately. Written comments must be received no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, June 14, and can be submitted at the public meeting or forwarded to:
