Health care is an innovative industry, but Ximedica knows it takes more than a great idea to make a difference.

For more than 30 years, this Providence-based company has collaborated with creative thinkers, progressive startups and established companies to help bring cutting-edge design to bear on various markets, most recently in service of life-changing health care and medical technologies.

The company’s roots are based in design excellence, says Hope Hopkins, director of communications. With offices worldwide and a challenging global market, nothing less than that exacting precision is acceptable.

“We help get ideas to market,” Hopkins said. “We have the capacity to help get from an idea that may or may not even be a napkin sketch to a commercially viable product.”

What makes the company a forerunner in health care is its meticulous and proprietary development process to move products forward with care. The process begins with basic concept design or research and moves through rigorous engineering and development stages before launch, to ensure high quality and best practices. With an international reach, Ximedica products must also meet global regulatory rigors and requirements, says Hopkins.

And while Ximedica doesn’t create products, the company’s employees are involved along every step of the development process. They consider everything from the technical details and the engineering challenges to the societal factors that could come into play. For instance, Ximedica is just as likely to help bring a new medical device to market as it is to assist a pharmaceutical company with retaining customer loyalty after a drug goes off patent.

Ideas come to Ximedica in all stages of development, from the very new and nebulous to a product that’s having inconsistent manufacturing results that need to be fixed.

“The core identity is that we never back down from a problem,” says Hopkins. “We have a dedicated group of people committed to solving the hard problems.”

Ximedica never loses sight of the personal interactions that make a difference. “When we talk about character,” said Hopkins, “We want to be known as a trusted partner.” •
