Last week, Providence-based Deepwater Wind won a federal auction for the rights to build offshore wind energy facilities in the waters between and south of Block Island and Martha’s Vineyard.

These facilities will be in addition to the demonstration project that Deepwater Wind is building just off the Block Island coast.

While the Block Island project has generated much opposition, based largely, but not exclusively, on the price of the electricity it will generate, the large projects have so far not created the same kind of backlash.

What is your opinion of the commercial wind energy farm? If it is built, will it be a good thing for Rhode Island?
