JWU’s McCue named Chef Educator of the Year

PROVIDENCE – Ray McCue, an assistant professor in the College of Culinary Arts at Johnson & Wales University, was named the American Culinary Federation Inc.’s Chef Educator of the Year at its annual convention and show, Cook. Craft. Create.
The AFC honored chefs, culinary industrial professionals and food service establishments at the July 30 to Aug. 3 convention and show in Orlando, Fla.
“Ray is well-deserving of this award. The award pays tribute to many qualities, skills and expertise, including an educator’s commitment to helping students define and develop their careers by using their skills and abilities to provide a strong foundation for their future success. Johnson & Wales values ACF’s recognition of Ray and we are proud to have him as a member of our faculty,” Peter Lehmuller, dean of the College of Culinary Arts at JWU, said in a statement.
More than 1,000 chefs, cooks, students and food service professionals attended the event, hosted by the ACF Central Florida chapter. Attendees were provided with opportunities to advance their professional development and enhance their culinary skills through workshops and seminars, cutting-edge demonstrations, a trade show featuring nearly 100 exhibitors, national competitions and ACF’s annual national awards.
Earlier this year, McCue was named the 2015 Northeast Educator of the Year at the ACF Northeast Regional Conference in Baltimore, a win that qualified him to compete in the nationals.
“Every day, I do my best to inspire students to go above and beyond in not only in cooking, but also in their lives and their community,” McCue said. “As a culinary educator, I believe that you can never tell where a teacher’s influence stops. I’m glad to have had such great teachers in my life, and to have the opportunity to pass along their lessons.”
