WARWICK – James V. Rosati, president and CEO of The Beacon Mutual Insurance Co. for more than a decade, will retire next July.
He’ll be succeeded in both roles by Brian J. Spero, the current chief operating officer.
Beacon Mutual, based in Warwick, is Rhode Island’s largest workers’ compensation insurer. It made the announcement Wednesday.
“It has been an honor leading Beacon Mutual and working side by side with such an incredibly dedicated team of employees,” Rosati said in a prepared statement. “I am proud of our accomplishments over the last decade, providing value for our policyholders each and every day while treating injured workers with dignity and respect. Beacon is a financially rock solid company and will continue to fulfill its mission by being a stabilizing force in the workers’ comp market and continuing to guarantee workers’ compensation coverage to any Rhode Island business.”
Rosati took over as president and CEO in 2007. Gov. Gina M. Raimondo lauded Rosati for his accomplishments.
“Under Jim’s leadership, Beacon Mutual has demonstrated a commitment to Rhode Island businesses, workers and families,” Raimondo said. “By educating employers and workers through a robust training and prevention program, Beacon is helping to rebuild a healthy economy and workforce. I wish Jim all the best in retirement and look forward to working closely with Beacon’s leadership team throughout this transition.”
Beacon Mutual’s board of directors chose Spero to succeed Rosati as president and CEO, according to the announcement. He’s been with the company for eight years.
Vice President of Information Systems Rajani Mahadevan will take over as chief operating officer. Mahadevan has worked with the company for 16 years,
“The board is grateful for Jim Rosati’s strong leadership over the past decade. He dedicated himself to Beacon’s mission and guided us to success each year and for that we thank him and wish him well,” said board Chairman Raymond C. Coia in a statement. “We look forward to continued success with our new executive management. Brian and Rajani have played an important role in Beacon’s achievements. They are long-time Rhode Islanders and are outstanding leaders. The board is proud to have superior executive talent within the organization familiar with Beacon’s operations, the Rhode Island business community and the workers’ compensation market.”
