Jobless rate falls slightly in New England in November

WASHINGTON – New England’s unemployment rate dropped 0.1 percentage points from October to November to 7.3 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics announced Friday.

Year over year, New England’s seasonally adjusted unemployment also dropped 0.1 percentage points from the 7.4 percent posted in November 2011.

Nationally, the unemployment rate fell 0.2 percentage points year over year to 7.9 percent in November.

From October to November, Rhode Island’s unemployment rate was unchanged at 10.4 percent, seasonally adjusted. Year over year, the Ocean State’s jobless rate dropped 0.7 percentage points from November 2011.

From October to November, the Massachusetts unemployment rate was unchanged at 6.6 percent after four consecutive months of increases. The Bay State saw a 0.4 percentage point drop from November 2011 to November 2012.

In October, the Ocean State had the highest jobless rate among the New England states and the second-highest jobless rate in the nation – behind Nevada at 10.8 percent.
