Joint commission would oversee new train station

PAWTUCKET – Mayor Donald R. Grebien has issued an executive order establishing a Joint Planning Commission for the development of a new train station in the Pawtucket/Central Falls Station District.

Comprised of members of the Pawtucket Planning Commission and Central Falls Planning Commission, the panel will be responsible for planning the revitalization of the station district to ensure it stimulates the economic vitality of the area, strengthening access to multimodal transportation, and supporting public and private infrastructure investments.

“I am pleased to be forming this commission with Central Falls to … make strategic decisions that will benefit our communities for decades to come,” Grebien said in a Jan. 20 statement.

The Pawtucket Planning Commission will hold a joint meeting with the Central Falls Planning Commission to review the draft ordinance creating the joint commission and make a final recommendation to the city councils of both cities. •
