Judge approves $200M N.E. Compounding settlement

BOSTON – A bankruptcy judge last month gave verbal approval to a settlement of nearly $200 million for victims of the fungal meningitis outbreak caused by the now-defunct New England Compounding Center, Boston Business Journal reported last month.

The settlement is double what Judge Henry J. Boroff previously approved in July 2014. According to BBJ, Boroff is expected in the next two weeks to sign a final court order to enforce the ruling.

David Molton, a Brown Rudnick lawyer representing creditors in the NECC’s bankruptcy case, said the approval will allow victims to collect compensation for their injuries.

Some 64 people died and another 751 people were injured in 2012 following the distribution of tainted steroids from New England Compounding Center, a bankrupt company located in Framingham, Mass.
