July Geeks dinner to feature VoltServer

PROVIDENCE – This week, the Providence Geeks will host VoltServer Inc., an East Greenwich startup that has pioneered a technology known as Packet Energy Transfer, which has the potential to revolutionize how electrical power is controlled, measured and distributed.
The PET technology digitizes electrical power into millions of discrete packets that reportedly contain both energy and data, “making it possible to transmit high-voltage power more safely and less expensively than traditional technologies,” according to VoltServer investor Slater Technology Fund.
Through this technology, VoltServer allows electricity to be used in ways that have never been seen before, such as powering a large refrigerator from an ethernet cable.
VoltServer received $500,000 from Slater last year as part of the company’s $2 million Series A financing round, following Slater’s initial $250,000 investment in the company in 2012.
VoltServer founder and CEO Stephen Eaves will join the Providence Geeks this week to tell the VoltServer story, demonstrate the PET technology and give a sneak peek at where this company at the intersection of electric power and information technology is headed next.
The July meetup will take place on Wednesday, July 16, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the AS220 in Providence. The event is free, but attendees buy their own food and drink.
