PLAINVILLE, Mass. – Penn National Gaming Inc. said that it plans to open the $225 million Plainridge Park Casino on June 24, pending final regulatory approval by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.
Plainridge will be the first casino to open in Massachusetts, following Gov. Deval L. Patrick’s signing of the expanded gaming act into law in 2011.
“We are excited to set our opening date for the first casino in Massachusetts. This state-of-the-art facility will offer premier gaming, dining, entertainment and racing options that are unmatched in the region,” Tim Wilmott, president and CEO of Penn National Gaming, said in a statement.
Plainridge Park Casino will feature nine dining and entertainment venues including Flutie’s Sports Pub, which will be Boston College football star Doug Flutie’s first restaurant, featuring memorabilia from his college and NFL careers. The casino also will feature the Revolution 1776 Lounge, hosting live entertainment, and Slack’s Oyster Bar, a 25-seat oyster bar.
“We are proud of the economic opportunities we’re bringing to Massachusetts, and specifically to Norfolk and Bristol counties,” Wilmott added. “In generating more than 500 new jobs, we will be a significant employer in the region. We believe the facility is already serving as a catalyst for additional economic development in the area and will continue to spur economic growth in the future.”
Lance George, general manager of Plainridge Park Casino, said, “Our opening will mark the culmination of a project that has enjoyed strong support from our host and surrounding communities, elected officials, labor unions, local vendors and the approximately 1,000 local construction workers who had a hand in building Plainridge Park Casino. We are deeply grateful for their efforts, which have been instrumental in our ability to open this facility only 15 months after our groundbreaking last March.”
The 106,000-square-foot venue is on Route 1 at exit 14B on Interstate 495, approximately four miles from the Interstate 95 interchange, approximately 35 miles from Boston and 18 miles from Providence.
The casino also will include a multi-purpose banquet room and simulcast wagering.
