PROVIDENCE – Kahn, Litwin, Renza & Co. Ltd. announced Tuesday at the Rhode Island Business Plan Competition awards ceremony that it was opening the KLR Emerging Business Center in its North Main Street offices to help lend support and guidance to startups and emerging businesses in the Ocean State.

“Due to the elimination of the federally-funded city of Providence Innovation Investment Program to startup businesses that stay in Providence, KLR is stepping in to help fill this void,” said Alan Litwin, managing director for the accounting and business services firm. “We know that startups and emerging businesses are the future for the growth of our business community and KLR wants to support and assist these great innovators.”

KLR expects that 10 to 12 companies will be able to fit in the co-working office, leasing space and potentially accounting and business planning services as well. Litwin told Providence Business News that a company could rent a desk in the space for $200 a month, with discounts given if more space were required. The services will be offered in a tiered approach, but he declined to give more details on cost, preferring to make that part of the discussion with the potential clients. He did add, however, that KLR might take equity positions in some of the tenants in lieu of charging them, an approach they have taken in the past with other clients.

Litwin added that the nature of co-working space demanded a selective approach. “It’s critical to get the right companies in there working together,” he said.

In addition to the space and accounting, technology and recruiting services being offered, KLR will provide a media room for presentations and meetings. The program is open to applications, to be found at KahnLitwin.com.
