KVH lands $5.2M international military contract

MIDDLETOWN – KVH Industries Inc. announced last week that it has received a new order for its tactical navigation systems for use in armored vehicles. The contract, valued at more than $5.2 million, was awarded by an unspecified international military customer.

Shipments for the order are expected to begin in the next six weeks, KVH said, with all services (including program management, engineering services and installation support) to be completed by the end of September this year.

“KVH’s TACNAV navigation solution is an important tool for U.S. and allied warfighters, providing precision navigation as well as coordination of vehicles in critical situations,” said Dan Conway, executive vice president of KVH’s guidance and stabilization segment. “The system serves as a crucial resource for navigation and battle management, and even as a backup in GPS-denied environments, keeping soldiers safe and out of harm’s way wherever they travel. This new order reaffirms the value of KVH’s TACNAV products for international militaries, and adds to our backlog for the year.”

Earlier this month, KVH reported a first-quarter net loss of $1.1 million due largely to a 53 percent decline in the company’s guidance and stabilization revenue, which includes KVH’s military tactical navigation systems and related services. The drop was driven by the company’s large Saudi Arabian National Guard program contract for the first quarter of 2013, which was not renewed in 2014.

KVH’s TACNAV systems provide unjammable precision navigation, heading and pointing data and can also support situational awareness. The TACNAV systems are currently in use by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, as well as allied military customers worldwide.
