KVH secures $7.2M contract, upgrades network

Posted:

MIDDLETOWN – Navigation technology developer KVH Industries Inc. has received two orders totaling $7.2 million with an “international military customer” to outfit armored vehicles for improved awareness.

The defense contract specifically called for the firm's TACNAV system to be installed on soldier-occupied vehicles, technology that integrates global positioning for precise targeting and navigation. TACNAV users include the U.S. Army and Marine Corp. and allied military forces globally.

“KVH’s TACNAV tactical navigation solution is an important tool for U.S. and allied warfighters, providing precision navigation as well as coordination of vehicles in critical situations,” Dan Conway, executive vice president of KVH’s guidance and stabilization group, said in prepared remarks.

“The system serves as a crucial resource for navigation and battle management, and even as a backup in GPS-denied environments, keeping soldiers safe and out of harm's way wherever they travel,” added Conway.

In what KVH called a “precedent-setting move,” the company also announced its new “Unrestricted Rate Plans” on its maritime broadband satellite network. The plans include a “Business Class Service” that will comprise unrestricted internet access for browsing, streaming or communication -all part of KVH’s mini-VSAT broadband network.
