TAUNTON – Wearable-technology-maker Kopin Corp. has acquired a majority stake e-MDT America, an expert in low-power analog/digital circuit designs, Kopin announced Monday.

Kopin Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer Richard Sneider told Providence Business News that the financial terms of the deal were not yet available, but they are scheduled to become public on Thursday after Kopin files regulatory forms with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

“The investment in e-MDT America is part of our strategy to provide our partners the best and most-complete technology portfolio of components and solutions for the emerging wearable computing market,” John C.C. Fan, CEO of Kopin, said in a statement.

“E-MDT America is a recognized leader in the design of ultra-low-power mixed-signal circuits and should greatly enhance our capability in designing new smaller and lower power chip sets for wearable computing systems,” added Fan.

According to a Kopin release, Santa Clara, Calif.-based e-MDT specializes in designing ultra-low-power driver integrated circuits and backplanes for many kinds of displays, including reflective liquid crystal on silicon displays.

“We are delighted to join the Kopin family,” Jin Kim, president of e-MDT America, said in a statement. “Kopin has been a very close partner to e-MDT America for many years, and we believe we can contribute greatly to Kopin’s strategy by meeting the needs of Kopin’s customers to have low-power components in their wearable computing systems.”
