WOONSOCKET – Thundermist Health Center, a federally qualified community health center, announced Tuesday that its board of directors named Jeanne LaChance as interim president and CEO, succeeding Charles T. Jones, who served as president and CEO for five years.

Jones is resigning Feb. 22 to become CEO of Harbor Health Services Inc., a community health agency based in Dorchester, Mass.

With offices in South Kingstown, West Warwick and Woonsocket, Thundermist serves low-income residents around the state.

LaChance, a certified public accountant who holds an MBA from Salve Regina University in Newport, has served as Thundermist’s chief financial officer and administrative officer since 2013, the nonprofit health center reported. Before joining Thundermist, LaChance held a number of senior management positions with Westerly Hospital; earlier she was chief financial officer at United Medical Center in Batavia, N.Y.

“Jeanne brings extensive knowledge and experience in health care administration and finance to the position of interim CEO,” Tim Henry, chair of the Thundermist board, said in a statement. “She has been instrumental in building a stable financial foundation for Thundermist at a time when the health care landscape has been volatile. We are extremely pleased that she was willing to step forward and take on this important responsibility as we conduct an extensive search for our new CEO.”

Thundermist’s CEO search is being conducted by Phillips DiPisa, a leading health care search firm; Thundermist anticipates appointing a permanent CEO later this year.
