Lawmakers recognized for home-care work

PROVIDENCE – Sen. Maryellen Goodwin, D-Providence, and Rep. Frank Ferri, D-Warwick, were honored in a Statehouse ceremony last week by the Rhode Island Partnership for Home Care Inc. They were named “Legislative Champions” by the trade association for their advocacy in ensuring access to quality home health care services.
The legislators were honored for both their continued support of home health issues and for specific legislation they are sponsoring.
Goodwin sponsored a bill that clarifies how the R.I. Department of Health and the Rhode Island attorney general investigate unlicensed home health care provider agencies and ensures continuity of care and proper transition to licensed agencies for patients. She is also sponsoring a separate bill that establishes a health care system planning process similar to that of hospitals and skilled nursing facilities for home care, home nursing care and hospice licensure.
Ferri is sponsoring legislation that increases the Medicaid fee-for-service reimbursement rate by 10 percent for home and community-based, long-term services and supports. •
