Saturday marks opening day for “Legacies in Paint: the Mentor Project,” a new exhibit at the Newport Art Museum. The exhibit marks the culmination of a four-month mentoring project that paired five mid-to-late career painters with five younger painters. Ranging in age from their early 60s to mid-twenties, the painters exchanged knowledge, insight, forethought and encouragement to ultimately stimulate and celebrate a visual conversation. The project was spearheaded by older artist Paula Martiesian and her younger counterpart Mollie Hosmer-Dillard. The exhibit will run through early May.
