Lifespan opens second hospital pharmacy

PROVIDENCE – As part of its efforts to reduce readmissions and improve the patient experience, Lifespan has opened a second pharmacy on a hospital campus.
Lifespan recently opened a pharmacy in the main lobby at The Miriam Hospital. The first Lifespan Pharmacy opened in 2013 on the Rhode Island Hospital campus. Both hospitals are part of the Lifespan Health System.
According to Christine Collins, director of pharmacy for Rhode Island, The Miriam and Bradley hospitals, opening a second retail pharmacy underscores Lifespan’s mission to deliver health with care by making it easier for patients to receive prescribed medications.
Nationally, nearly 75 percent of adults do not follow doctors’ orders regarding medications. This includes not filling their prescriptions, not taking them properly and stopping the medication before it is complete. The economic impact of nonadherence is $100 billion each year in the U.S. •
