PROVIDENCE – Lifespan Corp.’s President and CEO Dr. Timothy J. Babineau was recently elected to serve a three-year term on the administrative board of the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems, reported Lifespan. The council consists of nearly 400 teaching hospitals and health systems that belong to the Association of American Medical Colleges.

“I am honored to serve in this important role, giving Lifespan and Rhode Island a voice in the collective direction of our nation’s teaching hospitals,” Babineau said in a statement.

The 20 elected administrative board members are chief executive officers from teaching hospitals and health systems from throughout the United States. Chosen by their peers to represent council members’ interests before the Association of American Medical Colleges, the board focuses on operational and financial issues, health care delivery and payment reform, graduate and undergraduate medical education, federal advocacy and other critical issues.

The AAMC is a nonprofit association focused on transforming health care through innovative medical education, cutting-edge patient care and groundbreaking medical research. In addition to its 400 teaching hospitals and health care systems, AAMC also has the nation’s 147 accredited medical schools and more than 80 academic societies as members. The organization supports the entire spectrum of education, research and patient care activities conducted by its member institutions.
