Lincoln getting $170K for senior services

LINCOLN – The Lincoln Housing Authority will receive $169,497 in federal funding to help hire a service coordinator to assist residents, Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., announced Sept. 29.

The three-year federal grant is administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Resident Opportunities for Self Sufficiency Service Coordinator program.

The service coordinator will oversee 246 elderly and disabled housing units at Lincoln Manor and Manville Manor, and will focus on expanding mental health treatments, assisting with Activities of Daily Living and helping residents gain access to veterans’ benefits.

Reed said coordinators often prevent small problems from becoming costlier issues.

“The coordinator can act as an information concierge of sorts, so when seniors have a problem, there is someone there who can listen, identify solutions, and connect them with appropriate community-based supports,” Reed said in a news release. •
