PROVIDENCE – Scottye Lindsey will serve as the director of the R.I. Department of Business Regulation, effective Tuesday, replacing Sidney “Macky” McCleary, according to an announcement by the R.I. Executive Office of Commerce Monday afternoon.

In this role, Lindsey will work to make operating a business in Rhode Island easier and cheaper. In addition, he will oversee application of state laws which mandate the regulation and licensing of designated businesses, professions and occupations, according to the release.

“I am laser-focused on improving our [business] climate so we can help existing businesses grow and encourage new businesses to create jobs here in Rhode Island,” said Gov. Gina M. Raimondo, citing the elimination of the corporate energy sales tax and lowering of the corporate minimum and unemployment insurance taxes, which she said saved businesses $30 million per year.

A Brown University graduate and Warwick native, Lindsey spent 18 years with Deutsche Bank where he dealt with leveraged and investment grade corporate loan portfolio monitoring and lending assessment and approval.

McCleary, the former director, was named administrator for the Division of Public Utilities and Carriers by Raimondo effective Sept. 5.
