Lippitt House Museum hosts holiday events

PROVIDENCE – This year in celebration of the winter holiday season, the Governor Henry Lippitt House is hosting myriad holiday celebrations, including a Holiday Tea and a holiday Lippitt Lab.

Built in 1865, the Lippitt House preserves one of the area’s finest Victorian-style homes and on Dec. 17 the museum will host an event in which the Victorian roots of many of today’s holiday traditions, such as trees, presents and stockings, will be explained. Guests will be invited to make paper cornucopias and garlands. Presented with support from the Thayer Street District Management Authority, tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and military personnel and children under 12 are free.

The final Holiday Tea will be held on Dec. 18, with seatings at 1 and 4 p.m. for a relaxed, elegant afternoon tea catered by Delsie Catering and Events with sweet and savory bites. Reservations are required and tickets range from $45-$65 per person.

Preserve Rhode Island’s 1865 Lippitt House Museum offers guided tours, special exhibitions, lectures, art installations, concerts and family programs. A National Historic Landmark, Lippitt House has one of the best preserved Victorian interiors in America, allowing visitors to step into Providence’s Golden Age. Following the Lippitt family’s example of public service, the museum’s cultural programming promotes civic engagement, the arts and history of Providence.
