Local hospitals recognized with Women’s Choice Awards for patient safety

PROVIDENCE – Southcoast Health, Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island in Pawtucket and St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River were recognized recently with 2016 Women’s Choice Awards for patient safety.
The designation is given to health care institutions based on criteria that considers female patient satisfaction and clinical excellence.
Hospitals recognized were noted for exceptional performance in limiting hospital-associated infections, such as catheter-associated urinary tract infections, and surgical site infection from colon surgery, and complications from surgery and medical treatment, such as serious blood clots and deaths among patients with serious treatable complications after surgery. Data reported to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services was used.
“Southcoast Health staff work hard every single day to promote and maintain a culture of safety,” Tim Eixenberger, chief nursing officer for New Bedford-based Southcoast Health, said in a statement. “We are proud of this achievement because the safety and well-being of our patients is a top priority as we deliver the highest quality health care to the communities that we serve.”
The Southcoast Health system includes Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford and Tobey Hospital in Wareham, all in Massachusetts.
