Lt. Gov. Association makes Alzheimers a priority

Posted 8/6/12

PROVIDENCE – In a bipartisan resolution co-sponsored by R.I. Lt. Gov. Elizabeth H. Roberts, the National Lieutenant Governors Association endorsed efforts to prevent and effectively treat Alzheimer’s disease by 2025 at its annual meeting in July.

“Alzheimer’s disease is a pivotal public health issue that state policymakers cannot ignore,” said Donna McGowan, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association. “Today, more than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, including as many as 25,000 right here in Rhode Island.

McGowan said the association commended Roberts and Alaska Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell for introducing the measure. “It is a strong signal that the top state leaders understand the grave threat of Alzheimer’s disease.”
