NEW YORK – Malcolm A. Makin of Raymond James returned to the top of the list in Rhode Island in Barron’s annual “America’s Top 1,200 Advisors: State-by-State” ranking for 2014.

Based in the company’s Westerly office, it was Makin’s sixth consecutive appearance at the top of the list, which ranks financial advisers based on rankings that include client assets, client returns, client satisfaction and retention, compliance records and community involvement.

The advisers considered for Barron’s list have at least seven years of financial services experience and have been employed at their current firm for at least one year.

Robert DiColo of the UBS Financial Services office in Providence returned to the No. 2 spot on the list.

Merrill Lynch adviser Edythe M. De Marco and UBS Financial Services’ staffer Carolann Doherty Brown traded places at numbers 3 and 4 on the list.

Filling out the list of the top six advisers in the Ocean State were Joseph Hassett of Janney Montgomery Scott at No. 5 and John Zitzmann of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management at No. 6.

As part of the online story in Barron’s on the top Rhode Island advisers Makin expressed his confidence in the long-term strength of U.S. equities as interest rates go up.
