Mann resigns as Pawtucket Foundation executive director

PAWTUCKET – Thomas A. Mann Jr. has resigned as executive director of the Pawtucket Foundation, effective Oct. 12, the organization announced Tuesday.

Mann, who has served as executive director since 2008, said he was resigning to “pursue another exciting career opportunity.”

Mann confirmed by email that he was going to become the facilities director for Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island in Pawtucket.

“I am extremely proud of the Pawtucket Foundation and the work we have accomplished over the last several years,” said Mann in a statement. “Since 2008, we have grown our staff, championed key transportation projects, completed several streetscape beautification enhancements and charted a course for the revitalization of the river corridor in Pawtucket and Central Falls.”

“Today, I can say I will be leaving a solid, growing organization that is recognized as a community development partner and one of Pawtucket's greatest champions of a revitalized future vision,” added Mann, closing his remarks with a thank you to the Pawtucket Foundation’s board, partners, corporate members, staff and volunteers: “You have all taught me a great deal about civic duty, service and the meaning of community. Thank you.”

Over the next few months, the board of directors will conduct a search for a new executive director. Until that time, the board’s executive committee has appointed Aaron Hertzberg as interim executive director during the search and transition.

“On behalf of the board of directors, we want to thank Thomas for his service to the organization and our mission,” said a statement from David J. Sullivan Jr. and Kevin P. Tracy, co-chairs of the Pawtucket Foundation’s board of directors. “Although we are sad to see him go, we are excited for him as he initiates this next stage in his life and his career.”

According to Memorial Hospital's job description for a Facilities Management Director, they were looking for the following background, which surely does not describe Mr. Mann according to his linkedin profile:

Education: B.S. in Engineering/electrical Engineering or other Engineering degree Licensure: P.E. preferred Experience: 5-7 years related experience in a hospital/Healthcare field preferred.Knowledge Skills Abilities: Knowledge of engineering principles Knowledge of blue print reading

Is the Rhode Island credo "It's not what you know, it's who you know" spilling out of government into the health field?
