Smith & Nephew Inc., a medical-technology business based in Mansfield, will receive $88,000 for the training of 63 employees. Additionally, 10 new jobs are expected to be created, according to a news release.
Additionally, Woonsocket-based CVS Caremark Corp. will receive a $102,142 grant for the training of 120 employees in Needham, Mass. No new jobs are expected to be created through that grant.
The grants, which are for up to two years, serve as a resource for businesses to increase the skill set of their incumbent employees. This month’s announced grants will provide for the training of 3,273 current and newly hired employees at 39 companies across the 32 communities.
Since 2007, Massachusetts has awarded $74.6 million through the Workforce Training Fund in General Program Training Grants to 999 projects involving more than 1,052 businesses.
