More than 70 years after his grandfather, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, began the organization, James Roosevelt Jr. was named 2012 Citizen of the Year by March of Dimes.
During a recent celebration at Newport’s OceanCliff, the president and CEO of Tufts Health Plan was honored for his commitment to the organization and his support and advocacy for the health of babies.
“When my grandfather, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, founded the March of Dimes some three-quarters of a century ago, he knew that the solutions of grave health problems lay with the ingenuity and determination of dedicated medical professionals and volunteers,” Roosevelt said. “That resolve proved true then, and I know how true it is now in fighting preterm birth, birth defects and infant mortality.”
March of Dimes began in 1938 as a volunteer effort to combat polio. Today, it provides nationwide support for stronger, healthier babies.
In addition to recognizing Roosevelt’s dedication, The OceanCliff event raised $100,000 to benefit to organization.
