Marcum’s 3Q index projects increased non-residential construction activity in 2017

NEW YORK – The Marcum Commercial Construction Index for the third quarter of 2016 reflects continued spending weakness in non-residential construction through the first nine months of the year, but projects a significant increase in activity in 2017.

The projection anticipates a major infrastructure-led stimulus expected from the administration of President-Elect Donald J. Trump.

The quarterly index is a publication of the national Construction Industry Practice Group of Marcum LLP, a national accounting and advisory firm.

In September, non-residential construction spending totaled $690.5 billion nationally, down 0.7 percent from the same period a year earlier. Of the 16 sub-sectors, bright spots included office-related spending, up 23 percent; lodging, up 20 percent; and commercial construction, up 6 percent.
