Marcum takes over Smart, Devine & Co. of Philadelphia

NEW YORK – Marcum LLP, a national accounting and advisory services firm with an office in Providence, said Friday that it will merge with Philadelphia-based Smart, Devine & Co. LLC, an accounting and consulting firm.
The merger will take effect Dec. 1.
Approximately 75 partners and staff will join Marcum, and the firm’s two Pennsylvania offices will become part of the Marcum organization, according to a news release about the merger.
“We are privileged to welcome a firm with Smart Devine’s reputation for excellence and track record of success,” Jeffrey M. Weiner, Marcum’s managing partner, said in a statement.
“In Smart Devine we have found a team that shares Marcum’s commitment to superior client service and uncompromising professional skill. The synergies between our firms are already apparent, and we anticipate significant contributions from the Smart Devine team to Marcum’s continuing growth in the Philadelphia region,” he said.
James J. Smart, founder and CEO of Smart Devine, who joins Marcum in the newly created position of partner-in-charge of mergers and acquisitions, said combining with a national firm of Marcum’s “stature and reach is a natural progression for Smart Devine.”
Marcum has approximately 1,400 employees, including more than 180 partners, in 25 full-service offices throughout the U.S., Grand Cayman and China, according to information on its website.
Terms of the merger were not disclosed.
