Marijuana facility adding R&D space

FREETOWN – The company planning a 1 million-square-foot medical-marijuana growing operation here is adding a research and development facility, southcoasttoday.com reported Dec. 12.

Colorado-based AmeriCann received approval Dec. 6 from the Freetown Planning Board to add 30,000 square feet of research space, according to a statement from the company. The board previously approved cultivation and processing plans for the Massachusetts Medical Cannabis Center last December, the company said.

The R&D facility will be part of the first phase of development, which also includes 130,000 square feet of cultivation and processing.

AmeriCann will focus R&D efforts on emerging technology, infused products, lighting systems, plant science and more.
