Marijuana legalization would be very bad news for his dealer

To the Editor:
My dealer is very concerned about the current direction Rhode Island is heading with regards to marijuana legalization. Obviously he cannot speak for himself for fear of his personal safety, so he has asked me to reach out on his behalf. He is actually a staunch advocate of keeping marijuana illegal, which might surprise people. Currently he makes about $160,000 every year, tax-free of course, and before decriminalization passed he made more than $200,000. If legalization moves forward, he could see his income shrink even more.
Last year was really rough for him. He had to sell his second home but was still really hoping to be able to go to Europe this summer and maybe get a new engine for his boat. Please help ensure my dealer, and all the dealers in Rhode Island, keep making money by continuing our policy of marijuana prohibition. It’s the only sensible thing to do.
State senators and representatives of Rhode Island and Rhode lslanders who oppose marijuana legalization, you have the full support of all the drug dealers in the state. Congratulations. My dealer acknowledges that all of his success would not have been possible without those of you who oppose legalization, so thanks. Let’s make sure the youth continue to have access to marijuana through dealers.
