Marine Trades Association to buy Boat Show

BRISTOL – The Rhode Island Marine Trades Association will purchase the Providence Boat Show from Newport Exhibition Group.
“We are very pleased to take ownership of the Providence Boat Show,” said Andy Tyska, president of the association. “The show has always been a strong platform for selling boats and a very positive event for the Rhode Island recreational boating community.
“Furthermore, it is an opportunity to showcase our industry and its positive impact on Rhode Island’s economy. Newport Exhibition Group’s commitment to the industry and willingness to provide support through the next show were driving factors in making our decision.”
A spokeswoman for the association, which made the announcement on Sept. 17, said the group would not disclose the purchase price.
In its 21st year, the event is one of the largest winter boat shows in New England. Held annually at the Rhode Island Convention Center, it will next take place form Jan. 31 to Feb. 2, 2014.
As part of the agreement, Newport Exhibition Group will support the association through management and marketing consultation, as well as onsite staffing for the next show.
The association “is a natural fit to manage the Providence Boat Show,” said Tom Delotto, director of Newport Exhibition Group. “Its dedication to the Rhode Island boating industry and show involvement in past years lends itself to an easy transition. We are pleased to hand over the reins and look forward to supporting them during the transition.”
