MANSFIELD – Construction of a new ramp connecting Route 140 to Interstate 495 south near the Comcast Center will start soon, the Mass. Department of Transportation said.
The ramp – in the works for years – will eliminate the need for traffic leaving the Comcast Center to snake along the two-lane 140 on its way to I-495.
DOT spokesman Adam Hurtubise said contractors will work Monday through Friday and schedule construction around events at the Comcast Center. The $2.18 million project also includes work on existing ramps to I-495 that are north of the Comcast Center. The DOT expects to complete the work by the end of 2011.
The DOT was expected to hold a preconstruction meeting this week with contractor J.H. Lynch and Sons Inc. The construction timeline would be determined at that meeting, Hurtubise said.
